ORMOC CITY-The local government unit of Almeria, Biliran has stepped up the promotion of tourist destinations in their town consisting of water falls, rice terraces and diving sites.
Town Councilor Leonel A. Morillo, chair of the municipal council’s committee on tourism, said in an interview that they’ve been linking with various groups to advance their effort to make Almeria as one of the region’s top tourist spot.

He said that their town is blessed with plenty of beautiful scenic spots that even up to now are untouched by man’s civilization.
Some of which are the several waterfalls in Barangay Sampao, Almeria .
“A trail was recently completed from the road to the water falls. It is now accessible to nature lovers,” Morillo said in a media interview.
Another falls is located in Caucab village known as Bagongbong, a “breath taking” 30-feet waterfalls amidst tropical forest. According to the website leytetravel.com, birds and monkeys are very visible in the area. A natural pool around the massive falls is ideal for bathing, and picnic
The town houses Dalutan, an uninhabited island with a beautiful white beach. The rest of the island is covered with huge rocks.
Leytetravel.com said that the island have kiosks for day picnic and a neat cottage for overnight stay. The nipa cottage is a plain and basic shelter for the night sans modern world amenities. Dalutan is fifteen minutes by boat from the town center.
“We asked a group from the University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu City to take video footage underwater so we can show it to visitors,” Morillo said.
Another wonder is a man-made Iyusan Rice Terraces, which are patterned after the famous tourism site in Mountain Province. The terraces are created to help farmers optimize rice yield.
“All of these destinations are accessible. We are ready to accommodate tourists now that’s why we have been intensifying our promotion activities,” the town councilor claimed.
He added that their town’s destinations have already attracted local and foreign tourists for the past two years. VRC Resort and Agta Beach Resort have accommodation facilities that houses visitors who want to stay overnight.
There are regular bus trips from Tacloban City and Ormoc City to Naval, the capital town of Biliran . Almeria is just few minutes drive from Naval town. (Sarwell Q. Meniano)

I was able to experience scuba diving at Dalutan Island and Capiñahan Island but unfortunately, the corrals were already damaged and there were only few varieties of fish left.
try to visit Sambawan Island, the best island in Biliran.. =) because there are diverse kinds of corrals and fish..

Hi everyone, to those who are inquiring about dive shops or getting their tanks filled in Almeria or in Biliran, you can visit Agta Beach Resort in Talahid, Almeria Biliran. It’s now being slowly developed as a Scuba Resort in Biliran. From there you can go scuba diving in Sambawan Island, Dalutan, Higatangan, etc. You look for Melo Sabitsana of Agta Beach Resort. Thanks! :)
