TACLOBAN CITY LEYTE – Culaba-Caibiran Road specifically at Kilometer 1083+060, in Biliran province, is only one lane passable, as of 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon of January 21. However, construction is already ongoing at the other lane.
This was learned from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Eastern Visayas as reported by the local disaster risk reduction and management councils and the Department of Public Works and Highways, on the effects on Eastern Visayas, of the continuous rains since January 2, 2011.
This is the first time that Biliran province was included in the report on the effects of the continuous rains in Eastern Visayas, the Philippine Information Agency.
When requested for clarification, Mr. Rey Gozon, OIC Director of the Office of Civil Defense said that due to continuous rains, the road section mentioned was damaged. Thus, the Department of Public works and Highways in the Region is currently conducting immediate repairs.
OIC Gozon added that Tabango-Catmon-Manlawan-Gimarco Road specifically at Km 1034+500-km 1042+500 and the Cabungaan-Tabunok-Consuegra Road particularly at Km 1021+700-km 1027+900, both at Leyte 3rd District, remain to be hardly passable.
At the Leyte 4th District, two road sections are still hardly passable. These are the Libungao-Matag-ob-Palompon Road particularly at Km 1005+000-1020+000, with exception, Barangay Candelaria, Santa Rosa, Liberty & Tunubdan; and along Merida-Lundag-Putting Bato-Consolacion-Isabel Road particularly at Km 1108+900-km 1123+000 with exception, Barangay Lundag, Putting Bato & Consolacion.
DPWH Region 8 under the leadership of Director Asis gave the assurance that the Department is doing its best to make the necessary repairs for the safety and convenience of the riding public. (PIA 8)
