NAVAL, Biliran – All representatives of the various sectoral groups in the entire province of Biliran expressed their 100% support in the implementation of the Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program pushed by the Department of Education (DepEd) nationwide.
This was learned by PIA-Biliran during the division consultation conducted by DepEd – Biliran regarding the program on April 13, 2011 held at the Naval School of Fisheries (NSF) in Barangay Caraycaray, Naval, Biliran.
The day-long consultation was attended by the mayors of the eight municipalities of Biliran or their representatives and other local officials, provincial officials led by SP Member Brigido Caneja, III who represented Biliran Governor Gerardo J. Espina, Jr., business group, representatives of partner agencies, private schools, parents, teachers and students.
In his inspirational message, Dr. Pedro T. Escobarte, Jr., Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) of DepEd-Biliran said that the enhanced K+12 basic education program is the answer to the need for reforms in education because the curriculum is crowded and this can be decongested to 12 years.
“With K+12, we are assured of quality learning of the students in school,” he said.
He said, the consultation on the K+12 must go down to the barangay level, to explain the program properly to the grassroots.
Prior to the consultation proper on the Enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program, the statement of purpose and background of the K+12 program was presented to the participants by Dr. Carmelino Bernadas, the focal person of the K+12 program in DepEd-Biliran.
He said, there is a need to decongest the education curriculum by adding two more years of students in school.
He added that the Philippines is the only remaining country in Asia with a 10-year pre-university program.
“K+12 means better quality of education for all,” he said further.
During the focus group discussion (FGD), the participants expressed hope that with the enhanced K+12 basic education program there will be quality learning for all students that would prepare them to be globally competitive.
The division consultation ended with the signing of the pledge of support to the enhanced K+12 Basic Education Program by all sectoral representatives who attended the activity. (FEJ/PIA-Biliran)
