NAVAL, Biliran –- PSSUpt Alfredo J. Sabornido, Provincial Director of Biliran Police Provincial Office (BPPO), directed members of his staff and chiefs of police of the Municipal Police Stations in the eight municipalities of the province of Biliran to go out of their offices and conduct programs, impact projects and other activities that highlight the importance of partnership of the police force and the community in crime prevention as part of the 16th Police Community Relations (PCR) month celebration this entire month of July.
This year’s celebration is centered on the theme, “Matatag na Ugnayan ng Mamayan at Kapulisan Tungo sa Mapayapa at Ligtas na Pamayanan” with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) as the lead agency.
As public servants whose job is not only limited to law enforcement and safekeeping, the BPPO team led by PSupt Antonio Vacal, Asst. Provincial Director for Operations, together with PSupt Angel Bacatano, Intelligence Officer, and other police non-commissioned officers (PNCOs) conducted awareness drive on anti-criminality and anti-insurgency campaign at Sitio San Roque, Brgy. Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran, to promote safe and secured environment for the community.
As per press release from BPPO, the anti-criminality and anti-insurgency campaign was attended by 106 participants composed of barangay officials, members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), and residents of said barangay.
The participants actively interacted on the discussions regarding illegal gambling, illegal drugs, implementation of curfew hours for minors, and the proliferation of homemade guns locally known as “Boga”.
Other topics discussed were on the PNP-Integrated Transformation Program; disaster preparedness; BPAT; internal security operations; RA 9262 (Violence Against Women and Children); RA 9208 (Anti-Tracfficking in Persons Act of 2003); basic crime prevention tips at school, home, workplace, and streets; livelihood program and cleanliness.
The police force whose mission is to protect and to serve the people also needs to establish friendly relations with people in the community to gain their cooperation in bringin an end to criminality.
PCR month celebration is mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 764 dated January 24, 2005. # (PIA Biliran/LPT)
