Biliran prepares to celebrate rabies awareness month

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — The provincial government of Biliran led by Governor Gerardo J. Espina, Jr. through the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) jointly with the Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Committee (PRPCC) is preparing to celebrate the Rabies Awarness Month in March this year.
This was learned by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)- Biliran Provincial Information Center from the PVO.
The source said that part of the preparations for the celebration is the scheduled conference to be attended by the members of the rabies committee on February 17 at the Biliran Provincial Hospital conference room.
The main agenda of the conference is to finalize the activities in observance of the Rabies Awareness Month.
All members of the rabies committee are expected to attend the gathering to be able to participate actively in planning and formulating the activities of the celebration that will increase the awareness of the Biliranons on the danger of rabies and also to strengthen measures that will help prevent, control and eliminate the spread of rabies in the area.
Further, the source said that the launching of the Rabies Awareness Month Celebration in March will be held in the municipality of Culaba in the province of Biliran on March 2, 2012.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) regional office is set to declare the province of Biliran as a rabies-free province because for the past three years since 2009 until this year, the province had zero or no cases of animal and human rabies, Lorna Jadulco, nurse of the Biliran health office, said.
She said that the success of the province in the area of rabies control and prevention was due to the massive information campaign conducted by the PRPCC through the municipal agricultural office (MAO) of the eight town of Biliran province in coordination with the municipal health office.
