NAVAL, Biliran — The committee on public market and slaughterhouse of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) in the municipality of Naval recently conducted a public hearing on the proposed market code in this capital town of Biliran province.
The proposed market code entitled “The Naval Public Market Code of 2011” was explained through a power point presentation by Municipal Councilor Gregory T. Pastor, chairman of the committee on public market and slaughterhouse of SB Naval in a public hearing conducted on Feb. 22 at the Naval Gymnasium.
“This public market code pertains to the establishment, classification, administration and operation and the imposition and collection of rental fees for occupancy or use therein,” Pastor explained, noting that the first market code of the capital town will surely redound to economic benefits as well as restore orderliness in said public utility.
He added that the general objectives of this code are to make the public market responsive and effective instrument of public service and to encourage healthy competition.
Meanwhile, several issues and concerns affecting the operations of the Naval Public Market were raised during the public hearing by market vendors, stall owners, businessmen operating within the public market area, and other stakeholders like problem on sanitation, disorderly situation of vendors specifically in the wet market and other vital matters affecting the smooth operation of the public market.
However, Pastor assured that all these issues and concerns raised will be properly addressed once the proposed public market code will be passed and approved. (RSV-PIA 8 Biliran)
