Biliran population reaches almost 162,000 – NSO

NAVAL, Biliran, (PIA) –- The National Statistics Office (NSO) in Biliran revealed that the total population of the province as of May 1, 2010 is 161,760, based on the 2010 Census of Population and Housing.
The conduct of the 2010 Census of Population and Housing was made official with the signing by President Benigno S. Aquino III of Proclamation No. 362 on March 30, 2012.
According to NSO-Biliran head Rose Marie V. Lumbre, the 2010 population in the province of Biliran is higher by 21,486 compared to the 2000 population of 140,274. In 1990, the total population of the province of Biliran is 118,012.
Lumbre added that the population of the province increased on the average at the rate of 1.43 percent annually during the period from 2000 to 2010.
“This means that there are about three persons added per year for every 200 persons in the population” Lumbre remarked on the trend of growth of population in Biliran province.
Lumbre acknowledged the successful completion of census-taking conducted by enumerators all over the country including here in the province of Biliran with the support of the local and national officials, government agencies, local government units, media, private agencies and non-government organizations.
