TACLOBAN CITY – Following the policy of transparency and accountability of President Benigno Simeon Aquino, III, all the government officials and employees submitted their 2011 Sworn Statements of Assets and Networth (SALN) on the last working hour of April, including all senators and congressman.
First Leyte District Representative Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez tops as the richest of the thirteen congressmen in Eastern Visayas. With a net worth of P474,111,941.59 and no liabilities, Romualdez, who is now serving his second term, also ranked 6th place as the richest congressman in the Philippines among 284 members. Romualdez, who is also President of Philippine Constitution Association (PHILCONSA), owns real estate properties in several parts of the country and abroad, including shares at Banco de Oro Universal, one of the top five banks in the country.
Romualdez is also a Trustee of the Remedios Trinidad Romualdez (RTR) Medical Foundation, Inc.; Trustee and President of Don Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation, Inc.; stockholder of several golf clubs, Swift Foods, Victoria Milling, Inc. among others.
TV personality and product endorser now Representative of the Fourth District of Leyte, Lucy Marie T. Gomez ranks second with a total networth of P160,214,222.89. Gomez belongs to the landed Torres family of Ormoc City.
Among the top five are: Leyte 2nd District Rep. Sergio Antonio F. Apostol, 3rd, P44,637,900.00; Southern Leyte Lone District Rep. Roger G. Mercado, 4th, P44,100,00.00; Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone, who is a former media man, ranks 5th with total networth o P41,284,255.00
An Waray Party List Representative Florencio “Bem” Noel on his last term in the lower house and plans to run for Mayor of Tacloban City ranks 9th among the 13 congressmen in the region with a networth of P13,105,000.00.
