Biliran consumers group bring issues, concerns in regional consumers’ confab

NAVAL, Biliran – Identified consumers group and individuals representing key sectors in the province of Biliran will be off to Tacloban City on Wednesday, June 13 to bring different issues and concerns confronting the Biliranon consumers in a regional consumers’ congress set to be held on June 14 at the Leyte Park Resort Hotel.

Celerina T. Bato, provincial director, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Biliran province, in her letter furnished to PIA, said that the regional consumer’s congress is the gathering of consumers representatives from the different provinces in Region 8.

“Issues, plans and programs that will strengthen the role of the consumer associations in promoting and protecting the rights of the consumers will be discussed in the forum”, Bato informed.

It was learned that the provincial delegation in Biliran province to the regional consumers’ congress will be led by Agustina O. Caliao, president of the Consumers Association in Naval (CAN) in coordination and support of DTI-Biliran.

Other key officers of CAN will participate together with other identified individuals representing other sectors in the province to attend the regional consumers’ congress such as the youth, local government unit officials among others.

Meanwhile, the CAN officers in its previous meeting with Jorge D. Modesto, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI-Biliran, have already discussed several issues and concerns affecting the consumers in Biliran province which will be presented and discussed in the regional consumers’ congress.

Some of the key local issues and concerns discussed in the meeting include the non- granting of price discounts on medicines to senior citizens, delayed implementation on price cuts of oil products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), non issuance of official receipts and violations on fair trade laws and consumers acts.

CAN and DTI-Biliran have also laid down plans and programs for this year to strengthen the consumers association in Biliran province.(rvictoria/PIA 8 Biliran)
