4.9 magnitude quake jolts Biliran province

NAVAL, Biliran, July 4 (PIA) –A 4.9 magnitude quake jolted Biliran province at around 7:09 this evening with location at 003 kilometers South and 19 degrees West of Naval, Biliran based on latest report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs).

ening has reached 11.53 degrees North latitude, 124.38 degrees East longitude with a depth of 008 kilometers.

Two aftershocks were experienced as of 8:10 this evening, the first occurred a few minutes after the quake first happened while the second occurred at around 8:10 pm.

People scampered from their houses for safety outside as the quake jolted Naval, the capital town of Biliran. Some of the belongings inside their houses were also disarranged and fell on the floors.

Students of the Naval State University (NSU) were dismissed from their evening classes immediately as the quake jolted the capital town.

Majority of the patients including the hospital staff of the Biliran Provincial Hospital went out of the main hospital building for safety.

Dr. Gabriel Edano. OIC chief of hospital, said in an interview, that they advised the patients to stay out of the building after the quake for their safety.

Edano further said that they called the attention of the engineering department of the provincial government of Biliran to inspect if the hospital building is already safe so that patients can return to their respective rooms.

He informed that there were 75 patients admitted at the BPH at present.

As of this writing, no damage to infrastructures in the capital town of the province was reported. (rvictoria/PIA 8 Biliran)
