NAVAL, Biliran – Thirteen persons died on the spot as an elf type cargo truck met an accident in Barangay Cabibihan in Caibiran, Biliran at around 7:10 this evening, Saturday, July 21.
According to Angeles Montes Regir, a resident of Barangay Villacaneja in the municipality of Naval in an interview, she was riding on a motorcycle ahead of the elf cargo truck on their way to attend a wake of a relative named “Tiyang” in Sitio Banakod in Barangay Victory, Caibiran, when she heard a loud explosion at the back and later saw the elf cargo truck turned upside down in a ravine in Barangay Cabibihan, a few meters from Tinago Falls.
Regir informed that the elf cargo truck owned by Cornelia Montiadora, barangay captain of Barangay Villacaneja and driven by a certain Nilo Rosete departed from Barangay Villacaneja, an upland barangay in Naval, Biliran, at around 6:00 in the evening with several persons coming from the same barangay on board.
As per account of Dr. Fernando B. Montejo, Municipal Health Officer of Naval who conducted an examination of the fatalities in the morgue of the Biliran Provincial Hospital, 13 were already confirmed dead with several others in critical condition and were still treated in the emergency room of the hospital as of press time
The names of the fatalities are as follows: Honoria Regir, Lolita Yagon, Renato Escosis, Julito Yagon, Marianito Areglo, Juniel Rosete, Anthony Jay Montiadora, Lito Cabalquinto, Junita Rosete, Josephine Rosete, Junalin Rosete , a female child identified as Manilyn Rosete and one still unidentified male person.
