Biliran governor extends assistance to victims of road mishap

NAVAL, Biliran – Biliran Governor Gerardo “Gerryboy” Espina Jr. extended assistance to the victims of the Biliran road mishap that happened at the national highway near the famous Tinago falls in Caibiran town in Biliran province on Saturday at about 7:00 0’clock in the evening.
In an interview with Governor Espina, who expressed his sadness of the accident where 13 people died on the spot while two others died later in a hospital in Tacloban while undergoing treatment, he said the provincial government of Biliran under his leadership as governor shouldered the expenses for the coffins of 10 casualties while the rest were shouldered by the local government unit (LGU) of Naval through Mayor Susan Parilla.
He added that aside from the coffins for the 10 casualties, he likewise gave an amount for medical and hospital expenses for victims who were admitted at the Biliran Provincial Hospital and referred for further treatment to a hospital in Tacloban City.
Furthermore, he informed that for the duration of the wake of the 15 casualties who were placed in just one area – at the grounds of the residence of the barangay captain in Brgy. Villaconsuelo, Naval, where the victims were residing, he extended cash assistance to the family of the casualties and provided tents as shelter.
“Congressman Rogelio Espina of the lone district of Biliran gave P5,000 cash each to family of those who perished in the road accident and also hospitalization for the victims who were referred for further treatment”, Gov. Gerryboy said.
For her part Mayor Susan Parilla of Naval, the capital town of Biliran province in an interview, informed that LGU-Naval shouldered the purchase of coffins for the five victims who died. She informed that LGU-Naval likewise gave an amount for medicines of those who were admitted in a hospital in Tacloban for further treatment.
It was learned that the victims who were riding on an elf truck were on their way to a wake of a dead relative in a barangay in Caibiran town when the vehicle they were riding turned turtle into a deep canal which caused the instanteous death of 13 people.
According to the source, the dead victims will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Naval Catholic cemetery after a mass at the Naval Cathedral. (PIA Biliran)
