NAVAL, Biiiran – An official of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Biliran disclosed that the province has enough stocks of NFA rice for 2012.
Engr. Mario A. Cayanong, provincial manager of NFA-Biliran informed that as of this report, his office has 20,000 bags of NFA rice stored in their warehouse.
Cayanong said that the stock is based on the average monthly consumption of 4,000 bags of rice for the entire province.
Meanwhile, Cayanong informed that NFA-Biliran is currently undertaking an aggressive palay procurement program aimed at increasing the NFA rice buffer stocks for the entire province.
“NFA buys palay at P17 per kilo”, Cayanong informed with reservations that this will still increase to P17.40 per kilo due to the incentives given to palay farmers in the drying up and in the delivery of palay.
He said that the price offered by NFA to palay farmers is competitive with that of the private palay traders in the province.
NFA-Biliran has assigned palay procurement officers that will go even to palay farms during palay harvest season, he added.
Cayanong likewise informed that NFA-Biliran was able to buy 4,000 bags of palay in the municipality of Caibiran in the previous harvest season this year. (PIA Biliran)
