  I and my family are saddened by the death of CAPT. ARTURO VELASQUEZ. Our condolences and prayers to Mana Naning and Susan.

  For all those who do not know, let me share this very important information. Capt. Velasquez was instrumental to the certification of the Maritime program of NIT now NSU. When we needed a captain as Dean of the Maritime college as required by DNV, i requested him to work with us as dean. As i explained to him the urgency of the need for him and his credentials to boost the status of the Maritime College, without any hesitation he accepted my request for free. He never ever get any compensation, if he did he gave it back to the college by buying a couple of materials his office needed.

  With his affiliation at NIT as dean, we passed the FIRST and most difficult international accreditation, thus NSU qualified to become a member of the white list , meaning the level of the maritime program of NSU is equal to all other maritime institutions all over the world and that we are globally equipped and comparable to these institutions.

  i gave the greatest credit to Capt . Velasquez for his unselfish love and service to the people of the province and most of all to the NSU students and staff. Had he not come up to save the maritime program, so many faculty will have lost their jobs and so many students and parents would have suffered the huge expenses of getting the maritime degree in other institutions..Thus without the flagship program , NSU wil not be what it is today.

  In this regard, as a former administrator of NSU, I sincerely request DR. EDITA GENSON, to please award the necessary honors to CAPT. VELASQUEZ during his wake and his funeral. He greatly deserves our acts of THANKS AND GRATITUDE.. Thank you so much if this request is heard and granted.

  Eternal rest grant unto the soul of CAPT. VELASQUEZ.

  May our loving thoughts and prayers help ease the pain of lose for Mana Naning and Susan and all the grandchildren.We are with you, and we share your pain.
