MANILA, Philippines—PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corp., the biofuels arm of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co., has signed a jatropha deal with three grower-partners to develop 1,650 hectares of jatropha plantations in Iligan City, Biliran and Aklan.
PNOC-AFC president and CEO Romeo P. Tolentino said these growers were Malagsum Highlands Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Mahimco) in Iligan; San Juan Capenyahan Producers Cooperative in Biliran and RSL Agro-Trade Company Inc. in Aklan.
The biofuels group will codevelop with San Juan Capenyahan some 200 ha for jatropha; 450 ha with Mahimco; and 1,000 ha with RSL Agro-Trade.
“The biodiesel program is now at its peak and we are honored that grower-partners are increasing by the numbers,” Tolentino said.
Earlier, PNOC-AFC forged a deal with local government of Rodriguez, Rizal and the Montalban Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative to establish a 2,000-ha jatropha plantation in Montalban, Rizal.
